YouTube for Primary School (6-9)
Children ages 6-9 are curious, can follow rules, and increasingly want to find their own content. The right approach: a larger approved channel list, possibly with search enabled within boundaries, but still no Shorts, no comments, and no unsupervised browsing of the full YouTube catalog.

Growing the channel list
At this age, your child will regularly ask for new channels. Create a simple request process:
- Child shows you the channel
- You watch 2-3 videos to check tone, language, and content
- Approve or explain briefly why not
- Review approved channels monthly — remove ones they've outgrown
The transition question: YouTube Kids or regular YouTube with controls?
Many 7-9 year olds feel YouTube Kids is "for babies." If your child is pushing against it, WhitelistVideo on regular YouTube gives them the grown-up interface while maintaining channel-level control.
