YouTube for Preschoolers (3-5)

For children ages 3-5, use YouTube Kids in Approved content only mode with search disabled. Co-watch when possible. Keep sessions short (15-20 minutes) and turn off autoplay. At this age, YouTube should feel like choosing a book from a shelf — not browsing an endless library.

What to approve

Start with 5-10 channels or collections you've previewed. Quality markers:

Why not regular YouTube?

Regular YouTube — even with a supervised account — has recommendations, autoplay to unrelated content, comments, and Shorts. None of these serve a 3-5 year old. YouTube Kids with a curated list gives the video content without the engagement machinery.

Alternative: WhitelistVideo's Curated Feed mode presents approved channels as a clean grid on regular YouTube — similar to YouTube Kids' interface but using the full YouTube catalog. Good option if YouTube Kids doesn't have the specific educational channels your child uses.
