When Should You Enable YouTube Search?
Open YouTube search gives a child access to virtually all of YouTube's catalog. For children under 10, a search-free environment (YouTube Kids with search off, or an approved-channel-only setup) is generally safer. Enable search when your child can handle unexpected results, understands what not to search for, and you have content filtering in place.
What search opens up
Even with content-level filtering on supervised accounts, search can surface thumbnails and titles for content that's technically within the age band but not what you'd choose. A child searching "scary" or "fights" will find material that passes automated filters but doesn't match most family rules.

- Child is 10+ and demonstrates curiosity that the approved list can't satisfy
